The Challenge
Our challenge with the Dutch Army Training Centre was to reduce the Interior Noise levels of the CV90 training tank. The vehicle interior levels were up to 105dB (LpAdB) at the drivers ear when the vehicle was travelling. These high noise levels resulted in:
- High risk of hearing damage
- Stressful working environment
- Very difficult for communication and instructions
- Costs were too high
WHY VENTAC
At Ventac, we are committed to delivering exceptional service and technical expertise to all of our international clients. Reliability, expertise and exceptional customer service is at the core of Ventac and our expertise and knowledge of the Vehicle and Industrial Noise Control markets ensures we can provide high performance acoustic solutions for every application.
To achieve an acceptable interior noise level, Ventac developed a Vehicle Noise reduction kit for the CV90 Personnel Training Tank:
Fibreglass Slab panels – To reduce the reverberant noise level, Ventac installed several different sound absorption composite pieces.
AcQuilt – The engine and the hydraulic pump was a significant contributor to the high interior noise levels. To reduce the noise levels from these sources, Ventac added AcQuilt to the bulkhead. AcQuilt in contrast to the absorbers prevents noise entering the cabin.
Floor panels – The floor was identified as an acoustic weak point. Noise was transferred through the floor into the cabin. To improve the acoustic sound insulation of the floor, a barrier material was used.
Interior Trim panels – The perforated vinyl has the practical purpose of offering a tough, smooth surface that is easy to maintain and its acoustic purpose is to create a sound absorption surface with a peak performance in the speech frequencies. This creates an acoustic environment in which it is easier to communicate.
BENEFITS TO DATE
Our challenge from the Dutch Army training centre was to reduce the interior noise levels of the CV90 tank. Ventac developed a noise reduction kit which achieved a 10 dB reduction, providing more comfort and a less stressful working environment for the instructor and the trainees.
