A Digital Revolution: Transforming Irish Production

In the fast-paced world of manufacturing, staying ahead of the curve is imperative. Ventac take pride in embracing innovation and constantly seeking new ways to enhance their processes. Recently, their engineering team initiated a transformative project at the Irish production facility that’s changing the game in more ways than one.

The Goal
Ventac’s mission on this project was to eliminate the use of paper drawings in production processes. No longer would the team need to spend valuable time searching for, filing, or reprinting damaged drawings. It’s not just about convenience – Ventac’s core remit is to constantly better their offering for customers and the team alike. The introduction of tablets into their workflow has increased efficiency and productivity by leaps and bounds.

Ventac’s team leaders were quick to recognise the potential of this change and this week – eleven tablets were issued to production staff, and the team are already in the planning stages to expand the tablet’s functionality even further in the near future. This innovation is all about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Production Team Leader Emilia Jeglińska describes her enthusiasm for the recent developments: “Adding tablets in our production process has been a game-changer. As someone who used to spend a lot of time searching for drawings, the ease of accessing them with the tablet is so helpful and saves us time. The tablets also allow teams to work on the same drawing, together, making our processes faster and allow for better communication.

“Beyond viewing drawings, I use tablets for stock takes instead of handwritten sheets. The positive impact on productivity and the environment is clear, and I’m excited about the better standards we set for ourselves going forward.”

Ruth Scott, Ventac’s Engineering Manager, says: “The solution is simple – a tablet that accesses SharePoint where multiple individuals can simultaneously access and collaborate on the same drawing, putting an end to a tiresome search. Conscious of the challenges we faced with paper drawings in our production processes, we initiated a shift towards a more streamlined approach. It all started with a real pain-point of staff struggling to locate the same drawings promptly.

“The revelation came as we delved deeper into the issue – we realised that valuable personnel were spending considerable time weekly on this task. The savings extended far beyond what we initially envisioned, positively impacting production efficiency.

The tablets offer read-only access to PDFs to prevent unwanted editing. The team now looks to use tablets for stocktaking, replacing the tedious process of handwritten sheets and manual data entry. We now have access to Excel, allowing us to conduct stocktakes and streamline communication.”

In addition to the efficiency gains, this project aligns seamlessly with Ventac’s sustainability goals. By reducing printing and paper consumption, Ventac are taking a significant step towards minimising their environmental footprint. And, by extension, this is helping to improve cross-collaboration between departments at the busy Irish headquarters and boosting productivity overall.

Ruth comments: “The return on investment has been substantial, with increased productivity and a noticeable reduction in the time spent searching for drawings. The transition was smooth, with no resistance encountered from the team. We’re not only saving printing time and working more sustainably, but also fostering broader information sharing.

“As a sustainable solution, we are reducing paper consumption and minimising the environmental impact. The labour and production savings are unquestionable, releasing several hours per week back into our overall production schedule.”

What’s Next?
Ventac is proud to lead the way in embracing digital advancements in production, dedicated to pushing the boundaries and redefining what’s possible in the industry. Ventac’s Irish production facility is dedicated setting the pace for a new era in manufacturing.
